John Stammreich, a rocket engineer who rose to management positions in Boeing, TRW and Loral, has been elected President of the Aero Club of Southern California for 2013. He succeeds Nissen Davis, who was elected Vice President. Re-elected were Arthur McAllister, Treasurer, and Alan Wayne, Secretary.
Currently, John advises venture funds and major corporations on security, satellite, aircraft and communication technology strategies. He specializes in opportunity creation and market strategy creation through unique alliances and technology synergies.
Until recently, he was the Vice President of Global Strategy for Boeing where he supported the President for Networks and Space Systems by coordinating long term strategies of all business units in N&SS. He was chairman of the Boeing enterprise Homeland Security Council and oversaw technical direction of the Boeing Phantom Works Homeland Security organization within the Office of the Chief Technology Officer.
Before joining The Boeing Company in 2001, John served as President of Xtar, a satellite communications services joint venture between Loral Space and Communications and the Spanish Ministry of Defense. He also served as VPand General Manager for Government Programs for Loral Space and Communications, and as the executive for government programs on the Corporate Staff.
During his aerospace career, John has held leadership positions at TRW Space & Electronics Group that included Director of Advanced Programs, Antenna Center Manager, Director of Advanced Technology and a number of program management leadership assignments. He also was the general manager for the Rexnord Aerospace Mechanisms business unit, which is now a part of ALCOA, and Vice President & General Manager of Tecstar’s Dynamic Systems Division. He started his career as a rocket engineer on the Apollo Program working on the Lunar Module Descent Engine.
John holds a significant number of patents in the areas of aircraft and spacecraft mechanisms and systems, is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, has been a featured speaker at over a hundred symposiums and conferences and has been a member of many industry and government senior studies and reviews.
