For the past decade, our organization--chartered in 1925 as the Aero Club of Southern California--has identified itself as the Southern California Aeronautic Association. The Aero Club name, which was never abandoned, has usually been listed in parentheses after the SCAA title.

In a May 19 meeting, the Board of Directors voted to adopt a new logo and return to the primary name Aero Club of Southern California. Organization President Nissen Davis said the decision to return to the Aero Club name was made to emphasize to members and prospective new members that the Aero Club remains true to its original mission.

“Our primary function has never changed; to promote, advance and preserve our aviation and aerospace legacy,” Davis said. “As of next year, we will have been in continuous existence for 85 years, never losing sight of our purpose.”

The SCAA title helped people identify the Aero Club with the National Aeronautic Association, with which the Aero Club has been affiliated since 1925. That affiliation will continue, Davis said, and all Aero Club members will continue to have membership in the NAA, which is headquartered in Washington, DC. There are a number of other aero clubs in the nation, several of which are also NAA affiliates.

It appears on a new membership recruiting pamphlet and will now be used on the website and other publications of ACSC. To avoid confusion, the SCAA title will often appear in parentheses after the first reference to the Aero Club.
