Event: Dinner meeting featuring Dr. Peter Westwick of USC, who will describe how ACSC members can assist with the new Aerospace History Project of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West with collections of documents, photos and oral histories of aerospace. The Institute already has the collections of three Howard Hughes Memorial Award honorees—Jack Real, Willis Hawkins and Ben Rich. Dr. Westwick will show examples of what has been collected and explain what is still being sought. He will also cite examples from his own research of intersections between aerospace and California culture: one on Hollywood and another on surfing.
When: Thursday, Sept. 23. 6 p.m. social hour. 7 p.m. buffet dinner served. 7:45 p.m. program begins.
Where: Flight Path Museum & Learning Center, 6661 W. Imperial Hwy. (the red building) on the south boundary of the LAX Airport.
Cost: $40 per person for each member and one guest. $50 for non-members. Price includes buffet dinner as well as a choice of wine, beer or soft drinks. Event: Annual general meeting and election of directors, plus annual Scholarship Awards dinner. The program will include presentation of the Aero Club’s first Jack Real and William Schoneberger Scholarships to deserving college students. Also, the annual Marsha Toy Scholarships will be awarded to selected high school students. Additionally, local pilots who have recently set aviation records will be presented their certificates by Jonathan Gaffney, president of the National Aeronautic Association.
