Robert E. Lyon is an attorney specializing in Intellectual Property, including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright matters. Bob practically cut his milk teeth on IP law, growing up in a family of patent lawyers. His grandfather Fredrick Lyon started a firm in 1901 in Los Angeles, which was to become Lyon & Lyon. Bob’s father, Lewis Lyon, joined his brother Leonard in the 1920s, and their other three brothers, Dick, Bill, and Chuck all became partners.

Bob Lyon joined the Aero Club of Southern California shortly after the infamous Spruce Goose aircraft was “evicted” from its harbor-side ARCO hanger in Long Beach in 1982. Since the 2004 retirement of the Club’s long-time legal counsel, Ray Station, Lyon has served as counsel to the ACSC’s Board of Directors.

As Counsel, Bob negotiated the final settlement of a twenty-three year dispute concerning the full compensation and final ownership of Howard Hughes’ iconic aircraft. The Spruce Goose is now displayed prominently in the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

Bob ‘s community activities include serving as chairman of the legal committee representing parents and students in connection with controversial school closure issues concerning the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District in the 1980s. He served both on the litigation side and in the regulatory/legislative side and is a regular participant in other community and charitable interests on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Bob served as Secretary and 1st Vice President on the Jonathan Club Board of the Directors.

Bob received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960 from the University of Southern California. He earned his Juris Doctor Law Degree from the University of Southern California.
